For the first time ever in the history of RC Model Racing cars, a Concourse was held at the Meyerton RC Raceway organised by Meyerton RC Raceway track owner, Henry Ogden . After being a little bit skeptic about the outcome of the show due to it being the first event of it's kind and in terms of entries and visitors, the result was in fact very positive. With enough entries to cover almost every class in the Nitro and Electric divisions and plenty of spectators, the event kicked off with a bang. Although we had a high wind blowing, it was not enough to keep the participants and spectators away from this historic event.
Since the opening of the gates at 7:00am, the participants started pouring in and not long after the first spectators arrived to view the cars on display. With entries ranging from 1:10 Nitro Touring right up to Custom Built Trucks with Trailers and Dragster RC cars, the spectators had their fair share of viewing time and excitement while munching away on a delicious 'Boerie' prepared by Leon van Rooyen and his beautiful wife.
Not only were there RC cars on display but, to add a little bit more spice to the event, a number of classic car entries from the 'Late Great Motor Ass Club' was also on display for the day. These entries ranged from Classic Volvo cars, Mustangs and a very well looked after Corvette. Even though the classic car division was judged separately from the RC Cars, it chased up the heart beats just as much and one could see the envy in a lot of eyes.
Certificate of Attendance and Trophies
All entries for the event received a beautiful personalised 'Certificate of Attendance' and, Trophies were handed out to the top three spots in all classes, first, second and third places. Every one who took part in the competition can now say they were part of this historic event and has the goods to prove it.
The judging criteria consisted of body paintwork, body cut-outs, under carriage, tyres, mags, excessive wear and overall presentation. With so many excellent entries, the judges had their job cut out for them when push came to shove. Here are some of the entries that took a spot in the first three places of some of the classes.
Herman Stapelberg took first place in the 1:8 scale Nitro GT Class with his monster of a 'Monster Energy' design and theme.
Nico van Vuuren took first place in the 1:10 scale Nitro Touring Class with his custom Purple and Gold Skull design and theme.
Piet du Toit took first place in the 1:10 scale Electric Class with his classic Isuzu 4x4.
Gary Peterson took fist place in the Hybrid class with his custom built Dragster and Truck
Not all cars on display were entered into the competition. Some owners only wanted their cars on display for the day, and, believe me when I say that these cars didn't have to stand back for any of the entries. Some of these cars included a classic Electric 1:10 scale mini owned by Anette Ogden that was beautifully displayed in an assortment of colours and elements.
Another excellent car on display was that of Track Owner Henry Ogden. The 1:8 Nitro GT with an overall cool blue look with the Meyerton RC Raceway Logo custom painted into the body.
Overall, everyone that attended the Concourse competition was impressed with the final results.
