Meyerton Raceway October 2011 On-Road Feedback

Meyerton RC Rcaeway

What an extraordinary day! Waking up at 6h30 and seeing the rain pouring down, was not promising at all! But, being a track owner, Henry knew that despite the weather, some guys will rock up with the hope of the weather clearing up. He got dressed and opened the gate to the raceway.  True to the nature of RC enthusiasts, the first drivers arrived shortly after 7 o’ clock.  By then the rain had stopped and brooms were used to sweep the water from the tar track.

To cut a long story short: The day turned out beautifully and only a few isolated drops returned to witness the prize giving at 4’o clock and then subsided again.

We had 38 entries and 5 classes. The Electric Mini and Electric Stock classes were split into two heats each. Then we had a 1/8th nitro class, a super stock class and for the very first time at this track, we had a F1 class. Oops, sorry, Nico van Vuuren was driving his Nitro 1/10 scale, but because of a lack of competition, he was placed with the electric super stock guys, again.

Dries Louw raced his 1/8th scale nitro pan car, but he also didn’t have any competition, so he competed against Henry, with a brand new 1/8th scale nitro GT.

Piet du Toit did show up with a very nice looking 1/8th scale pan car, but he realized that the car was not ready for the punishment of serious racing, yet….so he rather not entered.

By the way, Dries managed to do a very fast lap in his second heat when he completed a lap in only 18 seconds! Keep in mind that the 1/8th scale cars race over the extended track, which is 225 meters long. Jaco van Wyk brought his 1/8th scale and entered into the race, but decided to withdraw beforehand when he noticed that the diff was overheating.

On this day Daniël du Plessis entered into the 1/10thscale electric for the first time, after he has proofed himself in the electric Mini class as well as the 1/8th Nitro in the past. Daniël also excels in off road racing. Talking about an all rounder!

The bunch of visitors provided our club members with more than just a challenge, because in most races the visitors actually got the better of our drivers!
